YES on Prop 8

This was a great time to start blogging because I have volunteered for the Yes on Prop 8 digital army. As you might know we are facing a crucial ammendment to our state constitution here in California. YES on PROP 8 is to protect traditional marriage and add to our state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Recently activist judges in our state have tried to bypass the traditional view of marriage and we are in a great fight here in our state. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we have been asked to donate our time and means to this fight to protect our families. So this will the first of many posts to do our part.

Here is a video describing the effects of same sex marriage on one young family in Mass.
Powerful stuff as we have a kindergartner who just started public school this year.

What happened in Massachusetts had nothing to do with same-sex marriage. MA's non-discrimination laws regarding family/health curricula in public schools predate legalized same-sex marriage by a decade. If same-sex marriage were made illegal in Massachusetts tomorrow, public school students would still learn that same-sex couples exist, and that some kids have two dads or two moms.

It's the same in California. For a decade, children in our state's public schools have been told that same-sex couples exist, and have *not* been told that that existence is wrong. That will remain unchanged, regardless of the outcome of Prop 8. As such, this is all a red herring to the sole issue to be determined by the vote on Prop 8: whether or not California should revoke the right to marriage currently enjoyed by California couples who happen to be of the same gender.

Patrick, it's not at all a red herring. If gay marriage is legitimized by staying legal, pro-gay propaganda will grow to bonfire proportions over time, whereas before legalization it was just a few sparks. I don't know how long it will take, but I think this issue will split our society like nothing we've ever seen before, and legalizing gay marriage (or keeping it legal) is like the gasoline for that bonfire.

Thanks, Patrick for your comment. I understand what you are saying. I in no way want to mislead anyone. Even if curriculum in the schools predated same-sex marriage in MA or Prop 8 here, the experience of this father was still disturbing.

Whether this family/health teaching started a decade ago or not it is upsetting to me that this is even part of the curriculum. I am fighting for Prop 8 because I believe in restoring traditional marriage.

Anyway, I disagree with you that the sole issue of this election is to "revoke the rights of same gender couples". I know that those against Prop 8 believe this. But Prop 8 does not violate rights. Nothing can be taken away from a same gender couple. Prop 8protects the institution of marriage, our children and our society. And it protects my rights to worship as I choose and have my children taught in our house of worship that our gender , family, our roles, and marriage only between man and woman are all divine without legal ramifications!!!
